Tom resides in the Adirondacks with his wife, Andie, his two step-sons, Kyle and TJ, and his new daughter, Marleigh. He grew up outside Hartford, Connecticut, the oldest of four boys. Tom enjoys hiking, kayaking, skiing, cycling, running, reading, writing, and spending time with friends and family. He has also been known, on occasion, to perform standup comedy throughout the Northeast and New York State.

In 2006, he completed his first triathlon, a half ironman in Tupper Lake, New York. Tom is in the process of completing his first book, focusing on the topics and subject matter discussed in his keynotes, seminars, presentations, and workshops. Tom is a certified Lay Speaker for the Adirondack region and surrounding areas. Tom is currently a School Counselor/Student Advocate for students in grades K-12 at Chazy Central Rural School in Chazy, New York. He takes pleasure in working with these students and their families.
